Values for a New World: Writing and the Great Change Upon Us
The worldwide pandemic has laid bare the existential challenges of our time,
including systemic racism, economic inequality and environmental collapse.
There are calls to rethink our political systems and social relations. What
might this new world look like? Must it be founded on fundamentally new and
different shared values and assumptions? Join us in imagining a new world
with two major Canadian literary figures based in Victoria.

Esi Edugyan is a novelist, essayist and cultural commentator. She is author
of the best selling *Half-Blood Blues* (2011) and *Washington Black* (2018),
and a two-time winner of the Giller Prize, Canada’s most prestigious literary award.

Tim Lilburn is a poet, essayist, and professor in the Writing Department at the University of Victoria. His poetry collection *Kill-site* won the Governor General’s Award.
